Interested in science, but hate the stuffy atmosphere of a college lecture hall? Want to learn more about the latest technology breakthroughs in normal English, minus the jargon? Then Café Scientifique Pittsburgh at Carnegie Science Center is the place to be!
Café Sci is THE place in Pittsburgh where anyone interested in science can get together in a really cool setting to discuss today's science issues with experts, and best of all... it's not a lecture! After a brief introduction by our monthly guest speaker, the evening is dedicated to informal discussion, eating, and drinking. Each month a different dinner and beer menu will be offered.
Located in Carnegie Science Center's Works Theater which has eight giant screens, a top-notch sound system, and a one million-volt Tesla Coil, Café Sci is the home of science for grown-ups in Pittsburgh.

Presenter: Dr. Donald Burke Dean, Graduate School of Public Health University of Pittsburgh |
University of Pittsburgh Professor Don Burke is a seasoned virus hunter who has studied epidemic viruses in animals and humans world-wide. He will discuss his role with film and also will talk about epidemics.
AIDS, SARS, Pandemic Influenza. What's next? Where do new epidemics come from? Are we completely at the mercy of nature, or can we predict and prevent epidemics before they begin? Dr. Burke will discuss his experiences in tracking the jumps of deadly viruses from animal into humans, and how advances in epidemiology and evolutionary biology could lead to stopping emerging infectious diseases before they spread globally.
